August is when everybody in Europe goes on vacation and most cities, unless they are tourists attractions, become ghostlike. We usually take our big family vacation in August, but this year we left very late in the month and most of it ended up in September, so stay tuned for the next episode in this series, if you want to see pictures from it.
The only trip of note that I took in August was based on a last-minute decision to cross the border and head into central Switzerland for a relaxing weekend. Little did I know that everyone else had had the same idea and that I would spend too many hours driving.
In the end, we still had a great time, even if the weather did not collaborate.
